Course description: This is a survey of the current regime of international legal protections for human rights. Primary focus will be on the sources of international human rights rules, the substantive content of those rules, and the different ways in which enforcement of them is sought. Attention will be given to the United Nations organs involved in human rights Law, the Council of Europe framework for advancing human rights law, and other regional arrangements designed to protect human rights internationally. We will also consider how foreign and international regimes compare with mechanisms for human rights protections in the United States.
