LAW-3236: Access to Justice: Theory and Praxis

In recent years the legal profession has seen a resurgence of attention to the access-to-justice crisis. This class encourages students to consider the depth of the access-to-justice problem across the United States particularly among the socio-economically marginalized. The students will navigate discussions of the barriers that communities face through four sections of the course: (a) the criminal/civil divide of the access-to-justice conversation, (b) rural legal deserts, (c) carceral legal deserts, and (d) communities that lack access to culturally informed counsel.
