The study of Native American Natural Resources Law will provide students with the opportunity to engage in some of the most significant economic decisions, stewardship initiatives, and cultural responses emanating from Indian Country in contemporary times. The course provides an overview of the law surrounding Tribal cultural property, the protection and utilization of the land in terms of resource production and conservation, the development of natural resources derived from Indian lands and the intertwined principles of the federal trust responsibility, taxation of resources, the ever-growing field of Native water rights, and the on-going enforcement of treaty hunting, fishing and gathering rights.
