CLI-1000: Resilient Practice

This course is designed for students enrolled in a clinic or externship where they work with indigent clients or others who are likely to have experienced trauma. It will help law students recognize and mitigate the negative effects of vicarious trauma through the use of resilient practice techniques. The course will focus on the interrelationship between professional responsibility and self-care when zealously representing clients who have experienced trauma and/or are traumatized by their involvement with the legal system.

Students who are enrolled in any of the following MHSL Clinics are highly encouraged to take Resilient Practice:
•Child Protection Clinic
•Civil Advocacy Clinic
•Health Law Clinic
•Immigration Clinic
•Innocence Clinic
•Legal Assistance to Minnesota Prisoners
•Reentry Clinic
•State Public Defender Post Conviction Clinic
•Wrongful Convictions and Sentencing

Students in other experiential or client-facing courses are also welcome to enroll. 
 

Prerequisites

Any student may register for this course with the consent of the instructor or if they are concurrently or previously enrolled in one of the following MHSL Clinics: - Child Protection Clinic - Civil Advocacy Clinic - Health Law Clinic - Immigration Clinic - Innocence Clinic - Legal Assistance to Minnesota Prisoners - Reentry Clinic - State Public Defender Post Conviction Clinic - Wrongful Convictions and Sentencing This is a HyFlex course that will meet at the listed times. We are planning for a portion of the students to participate in-person and a portion to participate remotely and synchronously. Take 1 as CLI- 1010, CLI- 1011, CLI- 1015, CLI- 1030, CLI- 1035, CLI- 1045, CLI- 1055, CLI- 1075, CLI- 1080, & CLI- 1085
